TOMBOLA
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF TOMBOLA SECTION
Since the inception of the Club Tombola had been a weekly tonic for relaxation of members i.e. Wednesday evenings. The Colonial Founders had played their own parts and after independence, indigenes took over the art of the game.
We cannot mention Tombola in Abeokuta sport Club without mentioning the following:
- Dr. Akin Najekodunrni
- Justice Sekoni
- Justice Demola Bakre
- Prince Degunle Karunwi (Baba Ijebu)
- Fola Onabanjo
- Late Mr. Kuyinu.
- Alhaji Ganiyu Egbeyemi
- Mr. Ebun Adeoye (Baba Kuture Flamingo)
- Late Otunba Biodun Banwo.
- Dr. Adisa Kolawole Salami(Disco).
The Tombola machine of the Club is the oldest machine in Ogun Sate today. Other clubs used to borrow the machine for their games. The game is played with ninety numbered balls and inter- mingled with jokes on cotemporary issues within the society. The jokes create laughter which is a therapy for stress management which in turn prolong the lives of members of the club.
Notable callers among the Tombola players since the creation of Ogun State are:
- Late Alexander Taiwo (Alex Taiwo)
- Justice Sekoni
- Justice Demola Bakre
- Mr. Tunde Otunuga (now Deacon Otunuga)
- Mr. Billiy Akinsola (3 and 1 Taxi Driver)
- Late Mr. Muyiwa Onabanjo
- Mr.J.K.Ogunyinka (AFOKUTA)
- Mr. Tunde Aregbsola
Since this is one of the oldest legacies left behind by the colonial founder of the club, members are enjoined to show keen interest firstly, for the elongation of their lives and secondly not to allow the game to die a premature death.
