HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF BASILICA SECTION

The Section was founded in the year 1996 for relaxation by elderly members who preferred the open air relaxation to the usually air-conditioned room. The first set of members included Prince Wale Adesina, Alhaji Wale Bakenne and Chief ‘Duro Aikuola

AIM

The primary aim is to stay in a serene environment devoid of noise and interference.

The group later moved to the Pavilion and got the permission of the Professor Sumbo Martins regime to use the open space at the top of the building as its temporary Section. At present, the Section has about 24 honourable gentlemen as regular members with about 10 visiting members. Notable amongst the new members are Chief A. A. Popoola, Lawyer Tunji Alabede and Otunba Tiwalade Sobo, Hon. Kunle Adesina, Chief Soniran Sowewimo and Senator Femi Okunrounmu.

The Section  has Chief ‘Duro Akikulola as the chairman with Alhaji Wale Bakenne as the Secretary. The Section will soon embark on the construction of its permanent site within the club premises. The first phase of the project will cost N3.5m
